This is not a wine-tasting site. Despite longstanding efforts to refine my palate, I remain an enthusiastic uncorker and consumer of bottles rather than a discerning connoisseur. For those who want expert guidance I have extracted the results from the following guides that I happen to have to hand, as well as some that are online. There is a useful online search facility for four guides, including Peñín, at elvino.com
The guides here are:
Anuario Gastronómico de la Comunidad Valenciana 2007 (ISSN 16983548). The 2006 edition was apparently the top-selling book in Valencia last year. The coordinator, Antonio Vergara, has been writing about Valencian cuisine for over thirty years. His trademark Panama (I think) hat and passion for Westerns, particularly those directed by John Ford, suggest that he has a slightly swanky view of himself as the John Wayne of Valencian gastronomy.
"Els Bodeguers" Asociación de Bodegueros y Licoristas de Valencia, 2006 prizes
Verema.com — Valencia-based online wine site, that is apparently the most frequently visited wine site in the world.
Peñín Guide to Spanish Wine 2006 (ISBN 8495203316). First edition of this eminent Spanish guide to be published in an English edition, try to ignore the disastrous proof-reading in the contents section.
Guía Campsa online — online edition of annual guide produced by Spanish petrol company Repsol.
La Guía Todovino — a comprehensive and elegant guide that arrived when I joined the TodoVino.com wine club.
